A Campaign of
Better Health Care for Communities
This campaign is for YOU.
Did you know that nearly 82 percent of adults in the United States take at least one medication, and that nearly 30 percent take five medications or more? It’s no wonder that adverse events caused by medications (also known as adverse drug events or ADEs) have become a serious public health problem (WHO, 2017). Every year over 120,000 hospital admissions are due to ADEs and over 700,000 people will visit the emergency room because of a complication related to a medication. Globally the cost associated with medication errors has been astounding at as estimated US$42 billion each and every year.
What can be done about it?
The best place to look for improvement is where the greatest risks reside. That’s why the HealthInsight Care Coordination team has selected to focus on three different types of high-risk medications: Opioids, diabetic agents and anticoagulants.
