HealthInsight New Mexico Welcomes New Board Members

HealthInsight New Mexico welcomes William Barkman, DO, and Doug Lohkamp, RPh, as the two newest members of its board of directors. Dr. Barkman and Mr. Lohkamp join the 12-member board of directors that includes statewide representation from a variety of health care settings and disciplines as well as non-health care backgrounds.
“We’re excited to welcome these gentlemen to the Board,” said Boyd Kleefisch, HealthInsight New Mexico executive director. “Bill has been active with our quality improvement work in the past, and Doug has served on our New Mexico Prescription Improvement Coalition promoting e-prescribing for several years. They are both tremendous additions to our local leadership,” he said.
Dr. Barkman is family practitioner in Aztec, New Mexico, with 35 years of experience. He is a retired commander with the 5th General Dispensary, U.S. Army Hospital in Augsburg, Germany, and a brigade surgeon from the 3rd Armored Division, 7th U.S. Army in the Federal Republic of Germany. Dr. Barkman also served at the U.S. Army Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado. He has served on numerous boards throughout his career, including a previous term on the NMMRA Board, the Lifecourse Board and as president of the San Juan Independent Practice Association board. His practice has worked with HealthInsight New Mexico staff through the New Mexico Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center.
Mr. Lohkamp is the director of pharmacy services for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM), where he worked since 1999. He is currently chair of the New Mexico Prescription Improvement Coalition's Health Information Technology Committee and an active member of the New Mexico Pharmacists Association. Mr. Lohkamp brings extensive experience and knowledge to his role through his work in previous positions held in New Mexico. In his current role at BCBSNM, his responsibilities include Health Care Service Corporation drug utilization management as well as designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating new and existing systems for cost effective and high quality pharmacy programs. His duties also include contract review and negotiation, devising strategy and policy regarding the administration of the prescription drug benefit offered to BCBSNM customers, and serving on the Prime Therapeutics National Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Lohkamp is a graduate of the University of New Mexico.
