Great 8+: MDS Three-Part Webinar Series

nursing homes

Join HealthInsight and your peers across the country to learn important tips on coding the new MDS sections. Expert speakers are curriculum development leaders with the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC). The sessions are scheduled for three Thursdays over the summer:

Part 1: What You Need to Know about Coding the New Section GG
July 21, 2016  1:00–2:00 p.m. (PT); 2:00–3:00 p.m. (MT)
October 1 is fast approaching, and every nursing home needs to complete the new Section GG items on the MDS. Join us for MDS Part 1 and learn how to successfully meet the charting and coding requirements for Section GG. This will require a systematic approach and lots of teamwork. We will cover coding instructions and describe each of the new items. You will also gain insights into how nursing and therapy can collaborate in completing the required sections. Do not let a rocky start impact the coming QMs that will be triggered by Section GG and ultimately will be used to adjust your facility’s Medicare Part A payments.

Part 2: Sections C, D, F and J: Capturing Resident Voice through Resident Interviews
August 25, 2016  1:00–2:00 p.m. (PT); 2:00–3:00 p.m. (MT)
Person-centered care is a focal point for improving resident outcomes, regulatory compliance and higher QM ratings. The RAI process harnesses resident voice through MDS Sections C, D, F and J, but is often underrated in its positive impact on resident outcomes. The data in these sections are impacted by social services, activities and nurses, but how often do all three disciplines collaborate in coding? The MDS Part 2 session will cover Section C – Accurately coding the gateway questions, determining cognitive status, managing care of residents with dementia; Section D – Capturing and managing mood indicators; Section F – Using resident preferences to create person-focused care plans; Section J – Identifying and managing pain.

Part 3: Understanding Quality Measures and Avoiding Common Pitfalls
September 22, 2016  1:00–2:00 p.m. (PT); 2:00–3:00 p.m. (MT)
The federal Quality Measures continue to be the focal point of the facility report card on Nursing Home Compare and serve as a baseline for developing value-based payment systems for Medicare. With new QMs recently added and more on the way, having a clear understanding of how QMs are captures and how to build a strong QM program is more important than ever. The final session in our MDS webinar series will help you to connect QM scores to Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plans. We will describe some common misunderstandings and pitfalls around QM accuracy and system improvements. Achieving high QM scores takes the entire team working together!
