Guide on Improving Patient Experience Through Physical Environment Available

Hospitals and health systems are working to improve patient scores measured through the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, the results of which are now tied to CMS reimbursements via the hospital value-based payment model. A new guide, "Improving the Patient Experience through the Health Care Physical Environment," developed through a collaboration of Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, explores ways hospital and health system leaders can use the physical environment to improve the patient experience.  The guide includes case studies; a hospital leader checklist; a template for using the people, process and place model; a table outlining eight domains of care measured by the HCAHPS survey with observed relationships to the physical environment; and resources. Download Guide
