U.S. Sodium Intake on the Rise, Exceeds Million Hearts 2022 Goal

According to the March 31, 2017, issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly (MMWR) Report, recent data show that sodium intake in the United States remains high. A study of 2013-14 data showed average daily sodium intake to be over 3,400 mg and rose from six years prior. The current rate exceeds the Healthy People 2020 objectives, and 44 percent of sodium consumed came from 10 identified food types.

Reducing sodium intake to keep people healthy is one of the new Million Hearts 2022 priorities. HealthInsight works to support Million Hearts® 2022 and progress efforts around cardiovascular health.
