New Year to Bring a New MACRA/MIPS Program

On January 1, 2017, the Quality Payment Program, driven by the legislation of the Medicare Access and Children’s Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015, will begin.

In anticipation of the upcoming changes, Ryan Harmon, project manager (pictured), and Renee Sussman, director of health information technology, of HealthInsight New Mexico gave a presentation to members of the Gila Independent Physician Association in Silver City, New Mexico.

The focus of the presentation was to introduce, provide background information and education on the Quality Payment Program, including:

  •  MACRA and its impact
  •  Transition from fee-for-service to quality and value-based reimbursement
  •  Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) rules, scoring and timeline
  •  Alternative payment models (APMs)
Attendees asked questions and were received additional resource information.
