Utah Hospital Recipients Announced for the 2014 HealthInsight Quality Award

HealthInsight Program Encourages Excellence Through Accountability

Sandy, September 25, 2014 — Fourteen Utah hospitals are being recognized for their high performance in quality care measures and patient satisfaction.

HealthInsight, a non-profit, community-based health care consulting organization, working to improve health and health care for patients and providers, will present the 2014 HealthInsight Quality Award to hospitals across Utah today.

HealthInsight Quality Award recipients are selected for demonstrating high quality health care and excellence in performance on a combination of publicly reported Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) quality of care measures and patients' perception of care measures. Patient involvement in care continues to be a focus nationally, so for the fourth year in a row, the award criteria include performance on patients' perspectives in hospital care. Research has shown that high performance on patients' hospital experiences goes hand-in-hand with excellent clinical care.

"We are pleased to present these awards to Utah hospitals that continue to improve their quality of care year after year," said Juliana Preston, Executive Director of HealthInsight Utah. "Continuing to include patients' perception of care in the award criteria allows us to reward a more complete picture of "quality" health care at large and small hospitals throughout the state."

The award recipients will be recognized at the Utah Hospital Association's annual awards dinner at the Snow Park Lodge in Deer Valley, Utah.

The HealthInsight Quality Award Program was launched in September 2004 to promote transparency in health care. According to the Institute of Medicine, transparency in health care is defined as a system that is "accountable to the public, works openly, makes results known, and builds trust through disclosure." By using available quality data to identify high performing providers and publicizing the results, HealthInsight aims to help providers improve health care and help patients become more active and informed participants in that care.

The hospital quality data is available by visiting www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov or www.medicare.gov and selecting Compare Hospitals in Your Area, or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
