One significant change was the expansion of our target from improving health care to improving health in the communities we serve. This recognizes that the health care system is only about 20 percent of what determines health. Other behavioral, socioeconomic and environmental factors drive much of the growing cost and decreasing health of our population. Much of what impacts a person’s health happens outside of the health care system: daily choices made about behavior and compliance to medical advice, and available support systems and environmental influences. Although we will continue our work to improve health care systems, we will expand our focus to include working with partners in our communities to positively influence upstream determinants of health and to increase community support to patients and their families as they gain and maintain health.
Like most organizations, HealthInsight doesn’t often change our mission and vision as they are the cornerstones on which we have built our work and connections to our communities. However, we have recently made a few changes to accommodate our new focus on health. In our updated mission and vision statement below we’ve added the underlined sections to include our expanded goal of working toward improvement in the health of populations in communities we serve. We look forward to partnering with existing and new stakeholders to work together on the challenge of improving health and the quality and value of health care.
Mission: We serve as a primary agent in focusing community energy to achieve significant and continuing improvement in the health of the community and in the quality and effectiveness of health care.
Vision: We envision a health care system that continually redesigns itself in an organized, conscious, and holistic way to improve community health status and to maximize value for its customers.
